Sugarcane

Why Sprinkler Irrigation?

Sugarcane producers worldwide depend on irrigation to maximize yields and obtain a higher sucrose content from their crop during the vegetative and yield formation stages.

For decades, the top producers in Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala and the Eastern Hemisphere have relied on Senninger to ensure their crop produces a consistent cane yield and achieves longer ratoon life.

Factors such as climatic conditions, operating costs and economics, planting density and water quality will determine which type of irrigation system is ideal for your unique setup, but Senninger has multiple options available for solid set irrigation and center pivot irrigation on drops or top-of-pipe.

Senninger Solutions

  • i-Wob2

The i-Wob2’s unmatched uniformity, large wetted area, and consistent droplet size has made it the most imitated sprinkler on the market.

  • Xcel-Wobbler

The Xcel-Wobbler is less vibratory than the standard solid set Wobbler and ideal for installations requiring higher flow rates.

    Flow Range: 0.78 - 6.97 gpm
    (177 - 1583 L/hr)

    Pressure Range: 10 - 25 psi
    (0.69 - 1.72 bar)

  • 80 Series Impact Sprinkler

The 80 Series sprinklers are designed for maximum efficiency at high flow rates and built to outlast and costs less than brass.

    Flow Range: 25.2 - 103.2 gpm
    (5724 - 23439 L/hr)

  • Pressure Regulators

Every system experiences pressure fluctuations, resulting in unwanted flow deviations and over and under-watering. Regulators maintain a constant preset outlet pressure with varying inlet pressures, which alleviates pressure differences that can cause an applicator’s area of coverage to change.

Success in the Field

Location: Guatemala

Senninger successfully converted this field from drip irrigation to an overhead sprinkler system equipped with high-angle Xcel-Wobblers and pressure regulators.

For 5 years, this field has been producing approximately 125 metric tons of sugarcane. In contrast, alternate irrigation solutions tested only produced 90 to 100 tons of sugarcane. The treatment, fertilization, mechanization, amount of water applied has been the same for all tested methods. The only difference is the way the water is applied.

The growers believe that this significant variance in uniformity is the main reason behind the 25% difference in metric tons yielded. The Xcel-Wobbler has a larger, more consistent droplet size than most overhead sprinklers. This means that there is less water loss due to wind and evaporation, and the soil is kept better aerated/oxygenated.
